 |
| وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ {١} |
1. I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, |
| وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ {٢} |
2. And the day when it shines in all its glory, |
| وَمَا خَلَقَ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ {٣} |
3. And Him who created the male and female, |
| إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ {٤} |
4. That your endeavour is for different ends. |
| فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَاتَّقَىٰ {٥} |
5. Yet he who gives to others and has fear, |
| وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَىٰ {٦} |
6. And affirms goodness, |
| فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ {٧} |
7. We shall ease the way of fortune for him. |
| وَأَمَّا مَنْ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَىٰ {٨} |
8. But he who does not give and is unconcerned, |
| وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنَىٰ {٩} |
9. And rejects goodness, |
| فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ {١٠} |
10. For him We shall ease the way of adversity, |
| وَمَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُ مَالُهُ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰ {١١} |
11. And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). |
| إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ {١٢} |
12. It is indeed for Us to show the way, |
| وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْآخِرَةَ وَالْأُولَىٰ {١٣} |
13. And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. |
| فَأَنْذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّىٰ {١٤} |
14. So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. |
| لَا يَصْلَاهَا إِلَّا الْأَشْقَى {١٥} |
15. No one will burn in it but the most wretched, |
| الَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ {١٦} |
16. Who denied (the truth) and turned away. |
| وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الْأَتْقَى {١٧} |
17. But save him who fears |
| الَّذِي يُؤْتِي مَالَهُ يَتَزَكَّىٰ {١٨} |
18. And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, |
| وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِنْدَهُ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ تُجْزَىٰ {١٩} |
19. And is under no one´s obligation to return his favour, |
| إِلَّا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْأَعْلَىٰ {٢٠} |
20. Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, |
| وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ {٢١} |
21. Will surely be gratified. |
