| وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ {١} |
1. By the heaven and the night-comer |
| وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ {٢} |
2. And what shall make thee know that which the night-comer is?- |
| النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ {٣} |
3. It is the star shing brightly. |
| إِنْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ {٤} |
4. No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. |
| فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ {٥} |
5. So let man look - from what is he created. |
| خُلِقَ مِنْ مَاءٍ دَافِقٍ {٦} |
6. He is created from a water drip-ping, |
| يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ {٧} |
7. That issueth from between the loins and the breast-bones. |
| إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ {٨} |
8. Verily He is Able to restore him, |
| يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ {٩} |
9. On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. |
| فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ {١٠} |
10. Then he shall have no power nor any helper. |
| وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ {١١} |
11. By the heaven which returneth, |
| وَالْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ {١٢} |
12. And by the earth which splitteth, |
| إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ {١٣} |
13. Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing. |
| وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ {١٤} |
14. And it is not a frivolity. |
| إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا {١٥} |
15. Verily they are plotting a plot. |
| وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا {١٦} |
16. And I am plotting a plot. |
| فَمَهِّلِ الْكَافِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا {١٧} |
17. So respite thou the infidels - respite them gently, |
