 |
| إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ {١} |
1. WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, |
| وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ {٢} |
2. And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, |
| وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ {٣} |
3. When the earth is stretched out taut |
| وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ {٤} |
4. And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, |
| وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ {٥} |
5. And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, |
| يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنْسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ {٦} |
6. O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. |
| فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ {٧} |
7. And he who is given his ledger in his right hand |
| فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا {٨} |
8. Will have an easy reckoning, |
| وَيَنْقَلِبُ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا {٩} |
9. And will return to his people full of joy. |
| وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ {١٠} |
10. But he who is given his ledger from behind his back |
| فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا {١١} |
11. Will pray for death, |
| وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا {١٢} |
12. But will be roasted in the fire. |
| إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا {١٣} |
13. He lived rejoicing among his people, |
| إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَنْ لَنْ يَحُورَ {١٤} |
14. Never thinking he will return. |
| بَلَىٰ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا {١٥} |
15. Why not? His Lord was always watching him. |
| فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ {١٦} |
16. So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, |
| وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ {١٧} |
17. And the night and all it gathers, |
| وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ {١٨} |
18. And the moon when at the full, |
| لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَنْ طَبَقٍ {١٩} |
19. That you will climb from stage to stage. |
| فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ {٢٠} |
20. So, wherefore do they not believe? |
| وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩ {٢١} |
21. And when the Qur´an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? |
| بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُونَ {٢٢} |
22. In fact the unbelievers disavow. |
| وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ {٢٣} |
23. But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. |
| فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ {٢٤} |
24. So give them news of painful punishment, |
| إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ {٢٥} |
25. Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. |
