 |
| لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ {١} |
1. I CALL TO WITNESS the Day of Resurrection, |
| وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ {٢} |
2. And I call the reprehensive soul to witness: |
| أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَلَّنْ نَجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ {٣} |
3. Does man think We shall not put his bones together? |
| بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ {٤} |
4. Surely We are able to reform even his finger-tips. |
| بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنْسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ {٥} |
5. Yet man is sceptical of what is right before him. |
| يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ {٦} |
6. He asks: "When will the Day of Resurrection be?" |
| فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ {٧} |
7. Yet when the eyes are dazzled, |
| وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ {٨} |
8. The moon eclipsed, |
| وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ {٩} |
9. And the sun and moon are conjoined, |
| يَقُولُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ {١٠} |
10. That day man will say: "Where can I find escape?" |
| كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ {١١} |
11. Never so, for there will be no escape. |
| إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ {١٢} |
12. With your Lord alone will be the retreat on that day. |
| يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ {١٣} |
13. Then man will be told what he had sent ahead (of good) and what he had left behind. |
| بَلِ الْإِنْسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ {١٤} |
14. In fact man is a witness against himself, |
| وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ {١٥} |
15. Whatever the excuses he may offer. |
| لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ {١٦} |
16. Do not forestall (the revelation before its completion) by acting in haste. |
| إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ {١٧} |
17. Surely its collection and recitation are Our responsibility. |
| فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ {١٨} |
18. So, as We recite it, follow its reading. |
| ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ {١٩} |
19. The exposition of its meaning surely rests on Us. |
| كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ {٢٠} |
20. But no. You love this transient life, |
| وَتَذَرُونَ الْآخِرَةَ {٢١} |
21. And neglect the Hereafter. |
| وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاضِرَةٌ {٢٢} |
22. How many faces will be refulgent on that Day, |
| إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ {٢٣} |
23. Waiting for their Lord. |
| وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَاسِرَةٌ {٢٤} |
24. And how many faces on that Day will be woe-begone |
| تَظُنُّ أَنْ يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ {٢٥} |
25. Fearing that a great disaster is going to befall them. |
| كَلَّا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَ {٢٦} |
26. Never so, for when life withdraws into the clavicula, |
| وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ {٢٧} |
27. And it is asked: "Is there any reciter of charms and amulets?" |
| وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ {٢٨} |
28. He will then realise it is the parting, |
| وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ {٢٩} |
29. And anguish will be heaped upon anguish: |
| إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ {٣٠} |
30. To your Lord then will be the driving. |
| فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ {٣١} |
31. For he neither believed nor prayed, |
| وَلَٰكِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ {٣٢} |
32. But only disavowed and turned away; |
| ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّىٰ {٣٣} |
33. Then he strutted back to his people. |
| أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ {٣٤} |
34. Alas the woe for you, alas! |
| ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ {٣٥} |
35. Alas, the woe for you! |
| أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَنْ يُتْرَكَ سُدًى {٣٦} |
36. Does man think that he will be left alone to himself, free? |
| أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِنْ مَنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ {٣٧} |
37. Was he not an emitted drop of semen, |
| ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ {٣٨} |
38. Then formed into an embryo? Then He fashioned, shaped and proportioned |
| فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ {٣٩} |
39. And assigned it sexes, male and female. |
| أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يُحْيِيَ الْمَوْتَىٰ {٤٠} |
40. Cannot such as He bring the dead to life? |
 |
